Cyprus , which will hold the presidency of the European Union from January 1, 2026, promises to bring a “new approach” to both Ukraine’s accession negotiations and other issues, the main ones being defense and migration issues.
Kombos assures that Cyprus will handle its EU presidency with discipline, dedication and “different thinking.”
“We believe that small states have a lot to offer in such situations,” the minister said.
He promised that the EU’s attention would continue to be focused on Ukraine, which has been defending itself against Russian invaders for four years. According to him, Cyprus knows well what military conflicts and occupation are.
“The agenda rightly concerns Ukraine and will remain so. But we want to take into account issues concerning the wider Middle East region, as we also see Cyprus as part of that region,” Kombos said.
